The Strength of Pink
During the month of October, community members from across the region participated in Breast Cancer Awareness Month through events and fundraising on behalf of Carol G. Simon Cancer Center.
“People were coming out of the woodwork,” Diane Haley, coordinator of Patient Support Programs at the Center, said. “It’s wonderful and overwhelming.”
The Foundation for Morristown Medical Center thanks the following organizations for their support of Carol G. Simon Cancer Center:
- In Lake Hopatcong, in northern New Jersey, The Windlass, Alice’s and Lake Hopatcong Cruises offered pink drinks, meal specials and pink merchandise during October, which raised $7,600.
- Teachers at Bedwell Elementary School in Bernardsville, NJ cooked breakfast for their colleagues and students. Ticket sales topped $800. Participants were urged to wear pink clothing to honor the late Judi Jensen, a teacher who lost her fight to breast cancer a few years ago.
- More than 350 families a part of the Morris Elite Soccer Club purchased pink socks for their children wear during their games. Sock sales raised $3,000.
- The Randolph Soccer Team filled care packages with an assortment of teas and lotions, handing them off at the Center for patients to enjoy.
- For the fourth year in a row, Madison Police Department officers sold pink patches raising $1,000. Madison Police Chief Darren Dachisen sported a pink patch and pink badge in memory of his late wife Mechele Rose Dachisen, who lost her battle to breast cancer in 2018.
- The New Jersey Forest Fire Service sold breast cancer awareness t-shirts throughout the state and raised $2,000.
