Division Director Patrick Culligan, MD, is an expert in the field of minimally invasive surgery to repair the pelvic floor and a leader in research that would improve women’s quality of life. A research fund would advance the following:

• the hiring of a research nurse;
• a two-year follow-up study to demonstrate that Pilates can cure urinary incontinence;
• a new pilot study to predict difficult vaginal births, which cause prolapse and incontinence;
• a study on how to best do a surgical scrub for vaginal surgery; and
• a decision analysis study, which would help expectant mothers make an educated decision about choosing an elective C-section versus a vaginal delivery
